Gemotions

The relentless rain outside mirrored the bleakness inside her. She stared blankly at the steaming mug of tea, the taste of chamomile doing little to soothe the tension knotting her stomach. The endless cycle of chores, deadlines, and responsibilities had her in its grip, a constant feeling of pressure tightening around her. The news from her mother's house was not good, and so she found herself going through boxes of her mother's belongings.

In one of the boxes, she came across a trove of her own past. A treasure trove, perhaps. Or perhaps, a monument to the endless hours of work her mother had put into her life. Her eyes widened as she pulled out a wrinkled spelling test, a science project on the solar system, a carefully crafted diorama of a Roman villa.

She felt a strange sense of unreality. It was like looking at a stranger's life, a life that was somehow intimately her own. She began to cry, overwhelmed. It was all a lot to process.
